About Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the best off-beaten trek in Gorkha, Nepal. The trek takes you around the eighth highest peak of the world, Mount Manaslu standing at 8163m (26,718ft). Since the year 1992, after getting permission from the Government of Nepal, the popularity of the Manaslu trek has grown. The serene natural beauty conserved under Both Hindu and Buddhist culture is reason behind its popularity. It is a perfect trek to those who loves less crowd and extreme peace.

In short, you will be walking on the bank of a deep and long river George – Budi Gandaki, sub-tropical and alpine forest with blooming rhododendron, tallest pine, cedar birch and juniper. Raising landscape from lower elevation to high, cold and challenging route of Larkya La at 5152m (17000ft). Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Ngadi Chuli, Himalchuli, Bouddha Himal, Annapurna range and Siring are ranges of central Himalayan as a wall of snow and hanging ice in the sky, which you will view clearly during the trek.

Manaslu Circuit Trek starts from the bumpy town of Sotikhola, a few kilometers far from Arughat. We will travel uphill along the powerful waterway- the Budigandaki and reach Machhakhola. The trail continues up to the snow-capped vegetation and wonderful scene of Jagat. We can enjoy more with Buddhism affected Gurung culture. As we travel ahead, we can look up to the beautiful mountains in the villages of Sho, Lho and Sama. The path is more exciting before reaching to Sama Gaon. It is because of beautiful monasteries, temples, caves, sparkling lakes, and mind blowing natural scenery.

Next, we proceed onward to the impressive Larkya La Pass that joins Budhi Gandaki valley and Marshyangdi valley. Presently the little settlements of Bimtang, Tilije and Thonje villlages will keep us occupied for an upcoming couple of days. Furthermore, from Dharapani we pursue the trail of Annapurna conservation area and consider it daily at Besisahar, then to Kathmandu.

Things To Note:

Days 01:- Arrival at Kathmandu 1,400 meters (4,600 feet), Meet at the airport and transfer to Hotel, overnight at Hotel

Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Kathmandu 1,400 meters (4,600 feet), Meet at the airport and transfer to Hotel.

Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu (1400m, 4600ft) is the junction where we will meet for Manaslu circuit trek. As you land on Nepal, our company member will welcome you, then drop you to hotel. You will have welcome dinner in cultural restaurant with company members where you will meet your guide and have brief of trek as well. Night stay will be in luxurious hotel of Thamel.

Day 2
sightseeing in Kathmandu, Overnight at Hotel Kathmandu.

The capital city of Nepal home to numerous holy places, parks and hiking cites. We will choose some most special places rich in all cultural, religious and historical values which you should not miss, after coming Kathmandu for sightseeing. First we will go to Bhaktapur durbar square – an ancient historical palace, then shyambunath- the monkey temple, Bouddhanath- peace retainer and if possible, pashupatinath- the greatest holy place of Hinduism. If we get more time then we will visit other places as well. Depending on your interest and time management we will try to include more places.

Day 3
Drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola via Arughat 710m ( 2,328 ft). 7-8 hours drive by jeep

Today, we will leave Kathmandu and setup on jeep for long drive towards Soti Khola (720m/2,362ft) via Arughat. The view of rular communities, market on the side of road, terraces from high hills to bottom of river, shorea robusta (sal) forest and flowing river will draw your attention. As we rich Soti Khola, with the welcoming scenery of Budi Gangaki valley, Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang range a tea house opens door for nigh stay.

Day 4
Trek from Soti Khola to Maccha Khola 930m. (3,051 ft) 8-9 hours trek, overnight at tea house.

The burble of Soti Khola, peaceful mountainous surrounding influence us for epic journey towards Manaslu circuit trek. After delicious breakfast on tea house of Soti Khola our walk begins. The path follows terrace farms side, forest, bank of river Budi Gandaki, uphills and downhills facing wonderful decoration of natural landscape. We will climb the rocky trial of Khursane, cross tropical water falls, walk nearby Gurung village of Labubesi and cross suspension bridge. Sometime on the shore of Budi- Gandai and sometime on the rocks, our 8 – 9 hours walk makes us to stand on beautiful village of Machhakhola for night stay.

Day 5
Trek from Maccha Khola to Jagat (1,410m / 4,625 ft) 6-7 hours trek

Our walk begins from Machha khola following the gorge of Budi Gandaki. Walking on the narrow trial with uphills and downhills we will reach Khorlabeshi after crossing the Tharo Khola. We will walk on the stone stairs for few hours. Stone stair case leads to downward river and upward Thado bharyang, a clear view of Gurung village, Langur monkey roaming on the place gives an opportunity to view the animal life closely.
Finally after crossing west bank of Budhi Gandaki and walking along the river side, climbing uphills for half hour, we will reach village Jagat. Night stay will be in teahouse of jagat where you will enjoy homemade food and Gurung culture.

Day 6
Trek from Jagat to Deng (1,804m / 5,917 ft) 6-7 hours Trek

Our mission will be to reach village of Deng on sixth day. With grabbing our breakfast we will start walking uphill over rocky path towards Salleri, then downhills towards Sirdibas. Various landscape, forest with blooming rhododendron, beautiful cultural villages without insense of developed infrastructure really takes you to new world you have ever seen.
Our trial continues to Valley of Ghatta Khola River, long suspension bridge in Philim, a large Gurung village, Ekle Bhatti and bamboo forest. We will enjoy with the wonderful scenery of millet field, grassy slopes, cross budi Gandaki, and Deng Khola River. Almost after 6-7 of walk we will reach Deng valley and night stay in tea house.

Day 7
Trek from Deng to Namrung 2,630m (8,626 ft) 6-7 hours trek

Today trial will be the most significant regarding to cultural prospective. We will cross Budi Gandaki River via suspension bridge and climb uphill towards forest and valley. The alpine vegetation, villages overloaded with ethnic culture and white Himalaya of Manslu range as hanging ice attracts a lot.
We will follow the route via Pork rather than another alternative route. The view of Siring himal on the roof of villages, crossing river-The Budi Gandaki, passing different gumba makes our journey more adventurous. During the trek we will also walk in dense forest of Manaslu conservation area leading to narrow George and until the forest ends. Finally we will stop our walk as we reach Namrung after forest trial. Our night stay will be on tea house of Namrung.

Day 8
Trek from Namrung to Sama Gaon 3,860m (11,578 ft) 6-7 hours trek

We will start our walk from Namrung towards Sama Gaon with wonderful view of Siring, Gadesh Himal, and Himal Chuli on the south. We will walk uphill through the forest to reach beautiful village Lihi. The terrace landscape with different vegetation, gumbas and stupas are additional source of beauty in the village. Then we will walk downhill to the valley of Simnang and Ganesh himal.
Our trial continues to Sho, Lho and Shyala villages’ repectively where we will enjoy the local life, ethnic culture, and hospitality of people with mind blowing view of Mt Manaslu, Hima chuli, Ngadi Chuli, Ganesh and glaciers of Manaslu range. Finally a walk around 6-7 hours makes us to stand on Sama Gaun which is the last village of today trial. Night stay will be on tea house of Sama Gaon with homemade local food.

Day 9
Rest day & side trip to MBC or Bihendra Lake 3,860m (11,578 ft) 6-7 hours trek

Today we will not proceed ahead. To acclimatize ourselves we will have rest day in Samagaon. Depending on your choice you can sleep, relax and visit village during day time.
If you are interested then we can have side trip to Manaslu base camp (MBC) or Bihendra Lake which takes around 6-7 hours to go and return back in Samagaon for night stay.

Day 10
Trek from Samagaon to Samdo 3,860m (12,660 ft) 4-5 hours trek

From today we will return back towards Basi, but follow different trial than we have used while coming to Samagaon. We will walk downhills towards Budi Gandaki river, cross suspension bridge, pass different maniwalls, walk through birch and juniper forest of Kermo Kharka and reach village Samdo.
Before reaching samdo village we will walk over wooden bridge, archway of stones, junction of rivers and view fantastic scenery of snowcapped mountains. Our day ends with night stay in Samdo village.

Day 11
Trek from sambo to Dharamsala 4,460 m (14,629 ft) 4-5 hours trek

We will leave Sambo and walk towards Tibetan market also known as Larke Bazzar then towards downhill to Budi Gandaki River. As previous days today also we will cross wooden bridge, view snowcapped mountains and many traditional monasteries. While we cross streams on the way we will see Larkya glacier as well. After 4-5 hours of walk we will reach Dharamsala which is also known as Larke Phedi. Night stay will be on tea house of Dharamsala.

Day 12
Trek from Dharamsala to Bimthang (3700m /12,139 ft) Via Larke pass (5,160m) 8-9 hours trek

Day 12 is quite challenging day because of hard path where we will cross many rustic villages. A clear view of snowcapped mountains and glaciers, beautiful valley, dense forest with variety of plants and animals make our journey energetic.
The larkya Glacier valley with mind blowing view of Cho Danda and larkya Peak will appear after short walk on uphill. We will walk on moraines nearby glaciers and enjoy with view of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and the massive Annapurna II. After 8-9 hours of walk from Dharamsala, we will reach Bhimthang for night stay.

Day 13
Trek from Bimthang to Tilije (1700m / 5,576 ft) 5-6 hours trek

With the beautiful scenery of Mount Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal and Choe Himal we will start our walk towards Tilije from Bimthang. After crossing Suspension bridge of Dudh Khola River, we will walk through forest with blooming rhododendron then towards Karche valley where we will see cultivation on high elevation. We will also walk on the river bank, pass the Gho village, pass several uphills and down hills of Manaslu circuit.
Finally we will reach Tilije village after 5, 6 hours walk from Bhimthang and have nigh stay.

Day 14
14 Trek from Tilije to Tal (1080m /3,542 ft) 5-6 hours walk

Day fourteen of Manaslu circuit trek is the last day of long hour walk. We will start walking downhill as we leave Tilije village. The stone paved path, suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River, mani walls and uphills through stupa shaped arch will drag us to beautiful village Thonje. After Thonje village we will pass police checkpoint, Dharapani and exit from Manaslu Conservation area. After onward we will enter Annapurna conservation area, step on downhill and cross Marshyangdi River via suspension bridge.
As we cross bridge over Marshyangdi River, we will walk nearby several mani walls and finally reach the village Tal. The large water fall on the roof of village tal will become our point of attraction before night stay on tea house of village tal.

Day 15
Drive back to Besi Sahar by jeep, 4 hours

Today we will have travel on jeep. After breakfast in tal village we will travel to Besi Sahar and have lunch there. The manaslu circuit remains back to us. The long journey on remote and beautiful places of Manaslu region will remain in our memory and gadgets. We will take rest as we arrive to Beshi sahar, enjoy meal, and dinner and have night stay on tea house of Beshi Sahar.

Day 16
Beshi Sahar to Kathmandu by tourist bus, hours. Night stay in nice hotel of Kathmandu.

Finally we will goodbye to Beshi sahar, the last trip location of Manaslu trek. We will travel via tourist bus around 5 hours to reach Kathmandu. The amazing landscape, beautiful river and snowcapped mountains will gives us farewell and remain behind us as we move ahead on bus for reaching Kathmandu.With beautiful memory of Manaslu circuit trek we will come back to Kathmandu and stay in Luxurious Hotel, have best food and sleep. You will have farewell dinner from company side on this last night of your trip.

Day 17
Final Departure to the international airport.

You will leave Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport. One of our company member will drop you to TIA and be with you until your flight. The good time of our journey will always be with us. Even though you depart from Nepal, the memory of the journey will be reflecting on our eyes forever.

Details of Manaslu Trek Accomodation, Difficulties and Best Time

Manaslu circuit trek is an off beaten trek of Nepal where you will have full exploration regarding to Buddhist culture and natural beauty of Mountain, forest, landscape, river, waterfall and glacier. This classic trek requires 17 days including arrival and departure. Among 17 days, three days will be in Kathmandu which includes arrival day, Kathmandu day tour on second day and last night after returning from Manaslu trek. You will spend 14 days in Manaslu circuit. Customizing the trip is upon you. If you want to spend more time in trekking area then we can visit more places as well. In case you want to complete trek earlier then we can directly come to Kathmandu from Beshi Sahar without having night stay but it will be quite difficult. Choice will be yours.

Manaslu Trekking


Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner will be provided from our trip package . During your trek, every day you will have breakfast in tea house before starting the walk. Lunch will be between 12 pm– 2 pm and dinner will be between 6pm – 8pm.

You can choose food from menu items of Tea houses. Generally, in your breakfast you will have either tea or coffee, bread and jam, boiled egg, fried curry, biscuit, chapatti, rice pudding, hot potato, corn flex,  Local tsampa porridge, Hashed brown eggs in omelets form or Pancakes, Fruits, Vegetables and other local food items.

Nepal thali containing rice dal curry pappad, and pickle will be in lunch, you can choose other food of your choice as well. Tibetan Bread various soups, sandwiches, momo, macaroni dishes, noodles, thukpa, curry of potato, salad pizza, papad, prawn, rice pudding, Apple pie are available according to your order. For dinner also Nepali thali is most common but you can also choose momo, chowmin, thukpa, soup, spaghetti noodles, curry of potato or other vegetables, salad pizza having tomato and mushroom, papad and prawn, rice pudding, apple pie and  hard drinks. You can choose the dish you like most. We don’t suggest you to take hard.


Luxurious hotel for night stay will be in Kathmandu only. In Manaslu region, you will have clean room of tea house for night stay. Room may not have attached bathroom but facility of restroom will be nearby. You have to pay extra for charging gadgets.

Even the place is remote but you will get internet, and phone signal in most of the place. You can remain in contact with your friend and family throughout the trek. There are 1,2 places where you willnot be able to contact with your relatives due to absence of wifi and phone signal.


Nepal embassy has been established in only few countries of world thus in case of absence of embassy in your country you don’t need to be worried about visa. You can easily get visit visa in Tribhuvan international airport, Kathmandu. Depending on your holiday and free time you can choose visa of 15days, 30 days and 90 Days in 30, 50 and 125 USD respectively. For having Manaslu circuit trek, you can take 30 days visa on Tribhuvan International Airport. You can add visa as well depending on your desire of visiting Nepal.


Manaslu is listed in a restricted region of Nepal. A trekking permit is compulsory to access this route. Annapurna conservation area project (ACAP) permit and Manaslu conservation area project (MCAP) permit are required and you should give 2 passport size photos for filling each permit form. Solo trekkers are not allowed for Manaslu trek. Thus a minimum group size of two people is necessary.

Best time for  Manaslu Trek

Spring and autumn season is considered as the best time for the Manaslu circuit trek. Rainless days, moderate temperature, blooming and fruiting of vegetation adds natural beauty and make our trek more than best. We don’t choose winter and summer season for trek due to extreme weather condition of winter and sloppy path, risk of leech, difficulties on walking with rain cover in summer.

Tourist bus, taxi and jeep will be our means of transportation to reach on trekking region and return back to Kathmandu.

As you arrive in Nepal, our private taxi will be there for pickup and drop you to hotel. For Kathmandu day tour also we will use private taxi. Then we will use tourist bus to reach Soti Khola and return Kathmandu from Besi Sahar after completing trek. Also, a jeep will be used to travel from Tal village to Beshi Sahar.


Even though the trekking region comprises off roads, uphills and down hills but you will be secured. Our guide will be with you, there will be fixed plan of walking, rest and night stay. You will have best trek in friendly environment.


Taking hard drinks is strictly prohibited except in Kathmandu. For good health condition throughout the trek, you are not allowed to take hard drinks. But while you come back to Kathmandu after the trek you can have a drink in a limited amount.

Drinking water

Mineral water will be available throughout the trek. You will be also facilitate with hot water in tea houses according to your demand. Also, you can fill your bottle with hot water for drinking in your walk.


Manaslu circuit trek is considered a moderately difficult trek. You should cross many suspension bridge, wooden bridge, uphills and downhills during your trek. There is high chance of altitude sickness as well. Long walk in off beaten path is alike to challenging trek. You will gain better experience of remote life. Also, this trek will be much supportive for having EBC trek which requires an experience of previous trek.

General Clothing recommended

  • Warm jacket – down jacket,
  • Water and windproof jacket (alternatively bring a poncho or umbrella)
  • Long sleeved synthetic fleece (windproof material, if possible)
  • Thermal underwear.
  • Hat, a pair of gloves and a scarf.
  • Comfortable hiking trousers. (loose fitting)
  • Shorts and trousers, or a skirt.
  • 2 pairs of warm wool-blend socks.
  • 2 pairs of running socks or liner socks.
  • Proper hiking boots.
  • Running shoes and flip-flops.
  • 2-3 T-shirts.
  • Water bottle.

Altitude Sickness

This is a kind of illness that is caused by ascent to high altitudes. The symptoms will occur within 6 to 24 hours of achieving a high altitude. Altitude sickness is fatal and can result in death if not treated in time. You need to stay alert to any of the symptoms that occur.

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Upset stomach
  • Feeling unsteady
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased heart rate
  • Difficulty sleeping

An effective measure to recover from early AMS

If you happen to notice any of the symptoms, follow the guideline mentioned below-

  • Do not climb any higher for the next 48 hours
  • Descend to a lower altitude if possible
  • Take complete rest until you feel well
  • Do not exercise
  • Do not smoke
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take external oxygen supply if necessary
  • Take anti-sickness medicines

If you see no improvement in your health within 48 hours, you will have to be immediately deported to the city for medical support.

Preventive Measures

There is no way to train your body prior to trekking so as to adapt to the high altitude. Some ways in which you can prevent it are as follows:

  • Take plenty of rest
  • Ascend slowly and gradually as you reach higher
  • keep yourself hydrated
  • Eat high-calorie food
  • Do not smoke, drink or consume tranquilizing medicines

Frequently asked Questions

What kind of fitness level is required for Mansalu trek?

Complete mental and physical fitness is required for Manaslu trek. For complete fitness you have to do regular jogging for minimum 2 months, you should practice nearly 4-5 Km running daily around 1 month before your trek. Also, healthy diet and physical checkup become helpful to maintain your fitness level.
Manaslu Trek is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will to, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 5160 m. This is the elevation of Manaslu Trek. Manaslu is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

You can also skip Kathmandu day tour if you don’t want to visit Kathmandu. We suggest you not to customize the trip by which you may be more tired rather than enjoying the trip. IT is far better to follow the itinery of package to get full entertainment you deserve from Manaslu trek.

How long is the Manaslu circuit Trek?

Manaslu circuit trek is 17 days long. The duration of trip can be customize depending on your body condition and your desire whether you want more rest day or less. Also the day can be extended if you want more days to spend in Manaslu circuit. Extending days may increase expenses.

Can you do Annapurna circuit trek from the trial of Manaslu circuit trek?

Yes, you can do Annapurna circuit trek from Dharapani of manaslu circuit trek. Both Annapurna and Manaslu circuit trek is linked in Dharapani. Thus we can change our plan and move towards Annapurana circuit instead of returning to Beshi sahar. You can enjoy both trek as will.

How difficult is Manaslu circuit Trek?

Manaslu circuit trek is moderately difficult trek. We can also say it as challenging classic trek where you will enjoy the remote village life with Bouddhist culture. You have to walk 6-7 hours every day on off road covering many downhills, uphills, suspension bridge, wooden bridge and cemented stairs.

Is manaslu permit cost alike to Upper Mustang?

No, the cost of Manaslu permit is lower than Upper mustang but the process is same. Both trek need a special permit form of immigration.

Do I need sleeping Bag?

Yes, you need sleeping bag so that you can sleep in your comfort zone even if you get less blankets in tea house. Also, need of sleeping bag depends on season of your trek. If you are having trek in peak summer then you don’t need sleeping bag, the tea house will provide enough blanket.

Can we get the ATM on trial?

No, there is not any ATM service on the trail because it is very remote area close to China (Tibet) border. So please bring the Nepali Money form Kathmandu.

What kind of hotel do I expect?

You can expect Simple hotel with clean rooms and good food. Luxurious hotels are not available due to remote place and difficult landscape for development of modern infrastructure.

Can we make one day Buffer in Samagaun?

Yes, you can make one day buffer in Samagaun. If you make buffer in Samagaon then you can visit Manaslu base camp on that day which will make your trip more adventurous.

Yes, it is safe to drink water in Manaslu region. You will be facilitate with mineral water. Also you can get warm water in tea house which depend on your choice either you want cold water or hot water.

Yes, you need insurance for Manaslu trek. In case if your health condition become bad or altitude sickness makes you weak then you have to stop trek and return back in a helicopter. The cost of such deportation is covered by health insurance that needs to be purchased before you start the trek.

No you cannot do solo trek in Manaslu. Since, Manaslu is restricted region, you should have minimum two trekkers to get permit of Manaslu circuit trek.

Yes, you can visit Mansalu base camp which will be upon your desire after reaching Samagaun. According to Itinery we will have rest day in Samagaun, but we can also visit Manaslu base camp as an option and return to samagaun on the same day without doing rest during day time.

In case if Larkye pass remain close, we will wait for maximum two days to reopen of trial. Heavy snowfall and sloppy path are reason of closing Larky pass, If snowfall continues then we will return back to Machhakhola. Company will refund for incomplete trek or you can choose other trek instead of returning back to your country.

Can we continue to Annapurna circuit trek after Dharapani?

Yes, you can continue to Annapurna circuit trek after Dharapani. From Dharapani we will follow the trial towards jomsom and travel to Pokhara then to Kathmandu. Your trip days will extend and expenses of trek will also increase in this condition.

What kind of food is available in package?

Breakfast, Lunch and dinner is available in package You can choose food from menu items of Tea houses. Generally, in your breakfast you will have either tea or coffee, bread and jam, boiled egg, fried curry, biscuit, chapatti, rice pudding, hot potato, corn flex, Local tsampa porridge, Hashed brown eggs in omelets form or Pancakes, Fruits, Vegetables and other local food items.

Nepal thali containing rice dal curry pappad, and pickle will be in lunch, you can choose other food of your choice as well. Tibetan Bread various soups, sandwiches, momo, macaroni dishes, noodles, thukpa, curry of potato, salad pizza, papad, prawn, rice pudding, Apple pie are available according to your order. For dinner also Nepali thali is most common but you can also choose momo, chowmin, thukpa, soup, spaghetti noodles, curry of potato or other vegetables, salad pizza having tomato and mushroom, papad and prawn, rice pudding, apple pie and hard drinks. For permit you need to provide us your original passport for a day because we have to show it in immigration office and have to make the Annapurna conservation area project (ACAP) permit and Manaslu conservation area project (MCAP) permit. For permit we need 2 passport size photos as well.

How can I book the trek?

You can book the trek by applying inquiry from company site. Also you have to fill up asked information and should certain amount in advance like 10%-20% of whole trip cost. So we can arrange everything required for trek before you arrive Nepal.

If we want to go Tsum Valley, do we need to inform you in beginning?

Yes you have to inform, Because we have to include Tsum Valley in permit and have to pay more fee. Because in manaslu region they charge us on daily basis. So if you want the Tsum valley, please tell us in advance, cause after issue the permit you are not able to change anything. And permit cost is not refundable. Therefore, if want to visit Tsum valley, please let us know in advance so that we can make permit including both place.
