How to reach Gokyo Ri?

Gokyo Ri trek is the best way to reach Gokyo Ri. It resembles the Gokyo Lake trek and the Gokyo Cho La Pass. We can either trek to Gokyo lake via Machhermo and Dole from Namche, or we can trek to Gokyo Lake from Lobuche after reaching Everest Base Camp

Best time for Gokyo Ri trek

We can go to Gokyo Ri throughout the year but the best time for Gokyo Ri trek is spring and autumn. The moderate temperature and pleasant weather in spring and autumn favors trekking to Gokyo valley Nepal. We can enjoy the amazing view of mountains and Gokyo lake during the months of March, April, May, September, October and November. Each of these months are favorable for trekking and expedition

Can we do Gokyo Ri trek in winter?

Yes, we can do Gokyo Ri trek in winter, but the temperature will be extremely cold. Trekking in winter will be relatively challenging due to extreme weather conditions. The sunny days are pleasant with clear view of mountains. Limited tea houses remain open in winter season and less people visit Gokyo lakes during winter.

Risk of altitude sickness

Gokyo Ri trek begins from Lukla and covers the higher altitude like Machherma, Dole and Gokyo village. We may suffer from altitude sickness if we do not acclimatize and walk fast. Since Gokyo Ri is located at high elevation (5357 m), there will be high risk of altitude sickness for any trekkers either experienced or beginners.

Long trekking trial

Gokyo ri trek via Cho la pass is 16 days trekking from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. We should walk for 14 days to complete the trek from Lukla to Lukla. Each day’s walking distance will be around 11 to 13 kilometers, which takes 6,7 hours every day. 

High altitude

Gokyo peak Nepal is 5357 m high and Gokyo village is at 4750 m which is relatively higher in elevation for trekking in Nepal. So, it is high altitude trek that is challenging for trekkers. 

Low temperature

The temperature in high altitude remains low; therefore, low temperature in Gokyo Ri remains as a challenge for trekkers. We should have proper clothing to remain safe with freezing temperature.
