Lobuche is one of the highest villages in the Everest region that provides accommodation services for various trekkers and climbers. The village is located at 4940 m. It is surrounded by naked hills and snowcapped mountains. The reduced vegetation, pastures, and glacial rivers leading to Lobuche are great to explore.
Lobuche, Nepal is famous as trekking route to EBC, Everest expedition, Gokyo Cho La pass trek and three passes trek. It is a resting zone for Lobuche peak expedition as well. The low atmospheric pressure and high elevation may cause headaches and altitude sickness if the body does not acclimatize properly.
The amazing view of Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Lobuche peak, Pumori, Changste, Khumbuste are major attractions of Lobuche village. Sherpa culture, popular trekking route, tea houses and mountaineering to Lobuche peak have make Lobuche village popular among nature lover: trekkers and climbers.
Lobuche peak is 6119 meters above sea level standing on Lobuche village. It is the attraction point and most popular climbing peak in Everest region. It gives peak climbing experience and training for the Everest Expedition. We can climb Lobuche peak within a day.
Lobuche is a Sherpa village where we can enjoy the Sherpa culture and tradition. Sherpa celebrate Mani Rimdu festival between October and November, Buddha Jayanti on full moon day of May, Dumje festival and Gyalpo Lhosar as new year are major festivals in Dingboche.
Lobuche village lies in between Dingboche and Gorekshep exactly in trekking route to Everest base camp. The trekking route to Gokyo lake, Cho La pass and Kongma La pass can be continued from Lobuche. It is the junction of EBC trek, Gokyo lake trek, Cho La pass trek and Kongma La pass.
Italian pyramid is a research center in Lobuche established by a joint venture between the Italian and Nepal government in 1990 AD. It is 4980 meters above sea level. The pyramid-shaped glass corresponds to the shape of Mount Pumori on the horizon. The research center is known as Pyramid observatory laboratory that conducts various research-based in meterology, hydrology, geology, medicine, and biology. We can visit the research centre and get information about it. It provides good accomodation as well.
There is a high risk of altitude sickness due to low temperature and reduced atmospheric pressure in Lobuche. We should drink plenty of water and garlic soup to prevent altitude sickness. If conditions get worse, we should return to Dingboche or rescue them by helicopter.
We can expect comfortable accommodation in Lobuche, but the attached rooms are not available. We can get clean common rooms in most of the teahouses of Lobuche. Luxury accommodation in Lobuche offers bed heating without an attached room. The bursting of a water pipe due to frozen water is the main reason behind the unavailability of the attached room in Lobuche. Trekkers need to share common bathrooms and common rooms in peak season (March, April, May, September, October, and November) due to crowds of tourists.
There is not any network in Lobuche but we can get paid wi-fi. We should pay Rs 1000 per day for using wifi in Lobuche.
We can experience cold weather in Lobuche, where the temperature ranges from 2.8°C to -23°C. The temperature profile of Lobuche is shown in the figure below.
January is the coldest month, while July is the warmest month in Lobuche. Therefore, if you are planning to trek to Lobuche, then we suggest to choose the best time for trekking rather than January.
Food in Lobuche
We can get a variety of food in Lobuche. The most common food includes Nepali thali, Mo: Mo, spaghetti, pizza, noodles, bread, and egg items. We can get menu in hotels to choose food items. Nepali thali is the most recommended food to digest easily. We should be very careful while choosing the food because the food does not get digested easily due to high altitude.
Route to Lobuche
The route to Lobuche covers trekking from Lukla to Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, or Pheriche village. It takes seven days to reach Lobuche from Lukla with acclimatization in Namche and Dingboche. Direct helicopter flight to Lobuche from Lukla is also possible.
Lobuche village is the finest settlement in the Khumbu region where EBC trekkers can spend the night. The trekkers can adjoin the Lobuche east peak climbing and get experience for Everest expedition. The good food and best hospitality have always praised Lobuche for night stays.
