The ABC trek route passes through rich woods and farmland to remote canyons below the stunning Hiunchuli and Machhapuchare (Fishtail Mountain). Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary

 As you land on Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) situated in Kathmandu- Nepal, one of our company member will  welcome you and pick you from TIA towards Hotel. You will meet your ABC trek guide and get briefing of your trek. You will have welcome dinner in cultural dance restaurant with company members.
 

After having breakfast we will carry our bag and start our journey towards Pokhara in tourist bus. Covering Pokhara to Kathmandu distance of 220Km, we will reach Pokhara in 6 hours. Pokhara welcomes you with the scenery of Annapurna (8,091m), Machapuchare (6,993m) in the north, Dhaulagiri (8,169m) in the west, Manaslu (8,156m) and Lamjung Himal (6,983) in the east.  We will reach Pokhara in 6 hours and check into hotel. 

During the journey of pokhara to Kathmandu you will enjoy the view of Trisuli River, Marsyangdi River, mountain, forest and market on the road side. You will have Lunch in well-managed hotel on the way.

We will pack our bag after breakfast then start our journey towards Nyapul in private taxi. The route begins after covering Pokhara to Nyapul distance of 40.6 km in 1.5 hour. 

Nayapul (1070m) is the starting point of ABC trek. We will start walking along Modi Khola, following the path through Birethanti (1015m) and enjoy with beautiful scenery of terreced landscape, diversified jungle and rushing Bhurungdi River. After four hours of walk we will reach Hille village (1496m). Then check into our booked tea house and enjoy the hospitality of Gurung culture, traditional food and take rest overnight there.

Today we will head towards Ghorepani (2,840m).  Hille to Ghorepani distance is 16km. We will start our walk around 8:30 am after completing our breakfast in Hile. Seven hours of walk along uphill with enjoying the view of snowy ranges of Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare, and Hiunchuli took us to Ghorepani. We will cover

Ghorepani is wonderful village giving view of Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV, V, Tukuche, Dhampus, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Barah Sikhar and Machhapuchhre.  We will stay in tea house, enjoy the Nepali food and take a rest.

We will wake up before 5 o’clock and hike to Poonhill - the Photographer’s paradise to view sunrise. Poonhill is the attraction and popular desination of Annapurna region. 

Ghorepani to Poonhill distance is 3 km only and it takes 45 minute to reach the view point of Poonhill. The morning sunrise view and rays falling on Himalayan ranges is marvelous. Spectacular view of Mount Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and other 32 ranges of Annapurna region is beyond Explanation. You cannot stop being please towards nature. With capturing the moment in photographs and videos we will return back to Gorepani and have our breakfast.

We will leave Ghorepani and start walking the rhododendron trial towards Deurali (2960). Have our lunch in Banthati and reach Tadapani (2520m) after walking around 5 hours. We will cover Ghorepani to Tadapani distance - 8 km after returning from Poonhill to Ghorepani. Tadapani is another beautiful village fascinated with great scenery of mountain peaks and amazing landscape. We will have night stay in Tadapani.

Our walk begins towards Sinuwa (2340m) after having breakfast in Tadapani. We will reach Chmorong village situated on the lap of Annapurna massif from where we can view Annapurna range and mount Machhepuchre clearly. We will cross valley of Modi River and Rhododendron Forest.

 Tadapani to Sinuwa distance is 11 kilometer and it takes 5 hours to trek Sinuwa. We will take rest and enjoy with the beauty of the place and stay there overnight.

Today you should walk longer path than previous day. We will walk towards Deurali after having breakfast. Seven hours of walk enjoying with the scenery of Annapurna region proceed in Deurali. Deurali is wonderful village reflecting Himalayan lifesyle. We will have night stay in Deurali  which is the last night before reaching Annapurna base Camp.
 

The special day of trek on which we will reach our destination. We will wake up, be fresh and have our breakfast in Deurali then start our walk. After four hours of walk we will reach Annapurna base camp (4130m) covering Deurali to Annapurna base camp distance around 8km. The marvelous beauty of snowy Annapurna range surrounds you. We will get a 360 degree view from Hiunchuli, past Annapurna South to Annapurna I (8,097m/26,566ft) and Khangsar Kang, Annapurna III and Machhapuchhare.

 A new experience creates life time memory on the mean day. We will stay in teahouse of Annapurna base Camp. Take photographs and capture the moment for immemorial history.

Ninth day is the first day of returning back. We will leave our foot prints on Annapurna base camp and move ahead toward Bamboo after having breakfast. Covering Annapurna base camp to Bamboo distance of 14 km in six hours we will stand on Bamboo (2050m). We will take rest, have dinner and spend our night on tea house of Bamboo.
 

We will move towards Jhinu – Danda (1700m) from Bamboo after having breakfast. It takes six hours to cover Bamboo to Jhinu danda distance of 8.5 km and reach Jhinu- Danda via Chomrong. We will cross the Valley of Modi River, rhododendron forest, dense bamboo and oak trees. We will stay in Jhinu – Danda, have dinner and sleep.
 

The trial completes on eleventh day of trekking. We will pack our bag, have breakfast and start our walk. Around 6. 5 to 7 hours of walk to cover Jhinu danda to Nayapul distance of 8.5 km on downhill let us in Nayapul. From Nayapul we will take private taxi and drive towards Pokhara. We will check into hotel of Pokhara take rest, have dinner and sleep.
 

After having breakfast in Hotel of Pokhara we will return back to Kathmandu via tourist bus. The wonderful trek to Annapurna base camp remain in our memory. We will reach Kathmandu, move to Hotel, put our bag and take rest. Our company will give you farewell dinner in cultural dance restaurant. This day indicates final day of our trek.

You can also come back by flight which depends on your desire. If tiredness overloaded you can choose this option as well. We can manage flight for you.

With respecting your desire we will arrange Kathmandu day tour on this day. We will make you visit famous places of Kathmandu. As Kathmandu is beautiful city decorated by various cultural heritages, parks and tourism sites. We will visit Pashupatinath, Shyambunath, Bouddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Thamel and have special Nepali dish. You can do Shopping in Thamel Bazzar as well. 

 If you don’t want to visit Kathmandu then you can have full rest on this day or even you can take ticket of returning back to your country

Evaluating the time of your flight we will check out from hotel and our private taxi will drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport. One of our company member will be with you for see off with best wishes.

Yes, Annapurna base camp trek is completely safe. Less difficult path, well managed tea houses, less chance of Altitude sickness and well trained guide makes your trek easier and safer. If you choose solo trek then you may have risk in management and completing your trek.

There are four tea houses at Annapurna base camp. Each tea houses provide facilities of wifi, electricity and charging your gadgets

Yes, it is possible to get a room in Annapurna Base Camp in high season also but you should do pre-booking. In case if you did not book room then you may have to sleep in the dining hall.

It takes five days to reach Annapurna base camp without Poonhill. For this trek your trip begins from Pokhara and ends in Pokhara. You should walk actively to complete the trek within five days

Luxurious hotels are not available in the trek route of Annapurna base camp trek. If you want to do short trek then you can return back via Helicopter. You will return back in shortest time and make your trek Luxurious.

Annapurna Base Camp has only few and small Hotel because Annapurna base camp lies in Annapurna conservation area and Environment Impact Assesment doesnot allow to build more hotels. Hotels focus on quality food rather than single room.

The full form of MBC is Machhapuchhre Base Camp.

It costs 350$ – 450 $ to share a basic heli tour of the Anapurna base camp. If you want a private Heli tour we can manage it as well. You should pay 1800$ – 2200 $ for a private Annapurna Base Camp Heli Tour.

If you do not get a room in base camp, you should consult to owner of tea house and they will manage dining hall for taking rest whole night. It is better to book room earlier so that you don’t need to sleep in dining hall.

Shower and wifi facilities is available in each tea houses during Annapurna Base Camp Trek. You can take shower with hot water everyday but you should pay extra of your own. Incase if shower is not working you will get hot water in bucket as well.

Using shared room depends on season of trek. In peak season you may have to use shared room in Annapurna base camp. Due to less number of tea houses in base camp you should book room earlier. You should walk 5- 6 hours per day for Annapurna base camp trek. If you want to complete your trek in short time you can increase walking hour whereas if you want to long trek then you can decrease the walking hours as well.

Yes, you can do Annapurna Base Camp Trek without Ghorepani Poonhill trek. You will start walking from Kande towards Landruk(1565), then Jhinudanda(1780), Chomrong(2165) and finally on ABC. This route leads directly towards ABC without going Poonhill.But we suggest to do with Ghorepani poonhill trek, so that you can visit more places with same permit

EBC trekking is harder than abc trekking. EBC Trekking is in highest altitude (5364m), it takes 15 days to complete EBC route whereas ABC trek is moderate trek, you will walk up to 4130 m elevation and complete within 7 to 12 days.There is less chance of Altitude sickness in ABC but you may suffer from altitude sickness in EBC. EBC has very steep path but path is less difficult in ABC route.

Annapurna base camp is not as cold as Everest base camp in winter. Temperate fall up to - 5° Celsius. Even though winter is not good season for Annapurna base camp trek. Winter wind, heavy snow fall and extreme weather may increase risk and difficulties.

You need sleeping bag depending on season. If you do your ABC trek in peak season – spring and autumn then tea houses may not give enough quilt, so you need sleeping bag. But in off season you will be provided enough quilt due to less crowd of tourist.We suggest to bring or hire sleeping bag so that you will not suffer in cold nights.

Yes you can get hot water in in this trip for drink and shower with an additional cost.

Yes, we can get safe drinking water along the trip. You will get mineral water up to Hille and filtered water is available throughout the route along Annapurna Base Camp but You should have your own bottle for filling water.

Annapurna Base Camp trek in Nepal is 14 days trip in the western region.  Overall, you will spend 2 nights in Kathmandu, 2 nights in Pokhara, and 10 nights 11 days in the Annapurna region. Our company member will welcome you in the airport and drop you at Hotel. The next day you will drive to Pokhara and enjoy the majestic hospitality of Pokhara hotels. The Trek Beginning from Pokhara, we will drive to Nayapul and start the Trek. After 10 days walk we will return to  Pokhara and next day to Kathmandu. You can also have a Kathmandu day tour depending on your choice. If you show interest in having a Kathmandu day tour then your trip will be one day longer and you will spend one night more in Kathmandu. On the last day, you can do shopping in Thamel - the best place in Kathmandu as well.

Visa

Nepal is one of the easiest country for getting a tourist Visa. Only limited countries have a Nepal embassy so we have an arrival visa system.  If travelers want to visit Nepal then they can easily get a Visa on Tribhuwan International Airport. You can get a visa of 15days, 30 days, and 90 Days in 30, 50, and 125 USD respectively.

Accommodation

ABC Trek is a popular trek as a tea house trek where we will provide a simple share basis room with a neat and clean Bed. Even though you will get a room with an attached bathroom but it’s very hard to find attached room in peak season.  Building a luxury hotel is beyond permission in the Annapurna conservation area that's why it is hard to get an attached room in ABC trek route. In the conservation area, tea houses with limited numbers of rooms are allowed. So that in peak season we have to share a room with other Hiker. In case if you book at the last minute or you are in solo trip you may have to sleep in the dining hall. Tea houses will only serve meals in such cases.

Meal

We will provide Breakfast, lunch and dinner in our Annapurna base camp trek package.

Breakfast: - We will give breakfast every morning around 7am- 8 am and will start walk only after breakfast. In breakfast you will have options of tea or coffee or Hot chocolates, bread or toast with jam, butter, cheese and honey, hot potato, corn flex, chapatti,  Local tsampa porridge, Hashed brown eggs in omelets form or Pancakes, Fruits and Vegetables etc. You can order items according to your choice.

Lunch: - We will have lunch in mid-day around 12am – 1 pm every day. Generally we will have Dal, Bhat and tarkari in our lunch. You can also have Tibetan Bread various soups, sandwiches, momo, macaroni dishes, noodles, thukpa, curry of potato, salad pizza, papad, prawn, rice pudding, Apple pie according to your order.

If the group is small then you can choose food items yourself but if he group is large then the company will give choice of 2-3 items and you can select according to your choice.

Dinner: - Generally dinner time will be quite earlier around 6:30 because we should have proper sleep to remain healthy and cure tiredness. You will get a menu including Nepali food Dal, Bhat Tarkari, soup, spaghetti noodles, Thukpa, curry of potato or other vegetables, salad pizza having tomato and mushroom, papad and prawn, rice pudding, apple pie, and hard drinks. You can choose the dish you like most. As we don’t suggest you to take hard drinks and it is better to take Dal Bhat and Tarkari in dinner so that you can have good sleep and digestion which is key to a healthy body.

Annapurna base camp trek is a moderate trek. The highest elevation in the ABC trek is 4130m only. ABC Trek is the best destination for beginners.

Peak up and Drop

You will have the full facility of Peak up and drop until you are with us. One of our company members will be there at the airport to welcome you, then he will take pick up you at the hotel. Your guide will come for checking out for the trip, you will be with your guide until you come back to the hotel after completing the trip. On the day of Departure, one of the Company-member will take you to the Airport and remain with you until the time of the flight

 Drinks

It is strictly prohibited to have hard drinks in the Annapurna base camp trek. After you come to complete your trek and return back to Pokhara or Kathmandu, Then you can have a drink of your choice in a limited amount. You should pay yourself for your drink. We do not suggest you to drink because it may bring health issues and may be problematic in some situations.

Transportation

We have options for three means of Transportation for trekking to ABC. Airplane, bus or private taxi, and a helicopter. For reaching Pokhara we can use either a tourist bus or morning flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara (six hours). Traveling Pokhara via tourist bus is included in the package but if you want to have a flight then your plane tickets will be of your own. While returning back also the bus expenses will be of Package but a plane ticket will be your own. We will use a private taxi for reaching Nayapul from Pokhara (1.5 hours).

If you become unable to return back from Annapurna base camo or middle of the way due to bad physical condition then we will arrange a Helicopter for returning back to Kathmandu.

ABC trekking is the most demanding trek in Nepal. Before starting the trek you should know about abc trek packing list. We have listed out the most essential clothing you should not miss during the trek. Besides clothing, you can carry dry fruits and chocolates to eat during the trek.

packing list is as follows:

  • Warm jacket – down jacket,
  • Water and windproof jacket (alternatively bring a poncho or umbrella)
  • Long sleeved synthetic fleece (windproof material, if possible)
  • Thermal underwear.
  • Hat, a pair of gloves and a scarf.
  • Comfortable hiking trousers. (loose fitting)
  • Shorts and trousers, or a skirt.
  • 2 pairs of warm wool-blend socks.
  • 2 pairs of running socks or liner socks.
  • Proper hiking boots.
  • Running shoes and flip-flops.
  • 2-3 T-shirts.
  • Water bottle.
  • cap

Note: You should carry your regular medicine, power bank, towel, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, sunscreen, sunglasses, rain cover, and gloves.

Best time

Before starting any trek you should know about the suitable time of a particular destination. The best time for the ABC trek is March, April, May, and early June during Spring. Similarly, the months of  September, October, November, and early December during Autumn are best to trek Annapurna base camp. Both Spring and Autumn have the best weather, clear sky, moderate temperature, and amazing mountain view.

Even though you can do Annapurna base camp trek throughout the year but you should face more difficulties in July & August (monsoon), and  January & February (winter season).

Altitude Sickness

There is a very low chance of altitude sickness on the trekking route. This is a kind of illness that is caused by ascent to high altitudes. The symptoms will occur within 6 to 24 hours of achieving a high altitude. Altitude sickness is fatal and can result in death if not treated in time. You need to stay alert to any of the symptoms that occur.

Symptoms

  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Upset stomach
  • Feeling unsteady
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased heart rate
  • Difficulty sleeping

An effective measure to recover from early AMS

If you happen to notice any of the symptoms, follow the guideline mentioned below-

  • Do not climb any higher for the next 48 hours
  • Descend to a lower altitude if possible
  • Take complete rest until you feel well
  • Do not exercise
  • Do not smoke
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take external oxygen supply if necessary
  • Take anti-sickness medicines

If you see no improvement in your health within 48 hours, you will have to be immediately deported to the city for medical support.

Preventive Measures

There is no way to train your body prior to trekking so as to adapt to the high altitude. Some ways in which you can prevent it are as follows:

  • Take plenty of rest
  • Ascend slowly and gradually as you reach higher
  • keep yourself hydrated
  • Eat high-calorie food
  • Do not smoke, drink or consume tranquilizing medicines

Insurance

During times of emergencies like acute altitude sickness or a natural calamity, you might have to be immediately deported in a helicopter from the trekking route. The cost of such deportation is covered by health insurance that needs to be purchased before you start the trek.
