Everest Base Camp Trek Permit

Everest base camp trek is the most popular trekking in the world. The eastern slope of Mt. Everest offers adventurous trekking to it’s base camp. There are certain criterias for this trekking among which the Everest base camp trek permit is the one. A permit is compulsory for foreigners, whereas Nepalese citizens are allowed to visit the Everest region without it. We need two permits for EBC trekking.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit is the entrance card for Everest region. The permit was introduced in 2018 AD for supporting the land of Mt. Everest and enhancing the development of trekking routes in Everest region. 

Khumbu rural municipality permit can be obtained from Nepal Tourism board in Kathmandu or we can get the permit from Lukla as well. Trekking agencies does all the paper work for getting the permit. We need two copies of your passport sized photo, your passport number for getting the Khumbu rural municipality permit. 

Sagarmatha National Park permit

Sagarmatha national park permit is the entrance card for going through Sagarmatha national park. It is national park permit introduced in 1976 AD as soon as the establishment of Sagarmatha NP. We can get this permit in Nepal tourism board, Kathmandu and Monjo village, Khumbu region. To aquire this permit, two copies of passport sized photos and passport copy is necessary. Even the solo traveller can make their permit.

Along with Everest base camp, these two permits (Sagarmatha national park permit and Khumbu Pasang Lamu Rural Municipality permit) are essential for Gokyo Cho La pass trek, Ama Dablam base camp trek, Everest Panorama trek and other trekking in Everest region.

Everest base camp trek permit cost

The Everest base camp trek permit cost varies among nationalities. The Sagarmatha National Park (SNP) permit cost is 3000 NPR per person per entry for all foreigners except SAARC countries. The SNP permit cost for SAARC countries is 1500 NPR per person. 

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality permit cost is 3000 NPR per person for foreigners and 2000 NPR for citizens of SAARC countries.

The trekkers who use EBC trekking route from Jiri, Gaurisankhar Conservation Area Project (GCAP) permit is also required along with Khumbu Pasang Lhamu and Sagarmatha national park permit, because we have to pass through GCAP to reach Lukla from Jiri.
