Renjo La pass is one of the highest passes near Gokyo lake. It is the amazing destination of the Everest Three Passes Trek. We can explore the mesmerizing view of Mount Everest, Gokyo lake, Gokyo peak, Cho Oyu and many more peaks of Mahalangur range. It takes 8 days to reach Renjo La pass from Lukla. The trekking route to Renjo La pass covers similar route to Namche and diverts to Thame heading to the pass.
The elevation of Renjo La pass is 5465m above sea level. It is connecting point of Gokyo valley and Thame valley. We can reach Renjo La pass before reaching Gokyo valley.
After reaching Renjo La pass we can continue to Gokyo valley, Cho la pass, Everest base camp, Kongma la pass and complete three passes trek.
The best time for Renjo La passes is spring and autumn. We can enjoy the amazing view of mountains and landscape during the clear weather of March, April, May, September, October and November. The temperature remains moderate during these months. Therefore we should always choose right time to enjoy the scenic beauty of Everest region.
Renjo la pass stands at high altitude (5465 m). Trekking to such high elevation is adventurous as well as challenging with high physical stress. Trekking day by day for 5,6 hours makes some trekkers exhausted. We should trek the long journey passing through ascending and descending trail which is physically difficult. Even though the pristine beauty of mountains and snowcapped peaks energize us. Trekkers should take rest and walk slowly to cover the long trekking route along the high elevation.
Altitude sickness is the major challenge of high-altitude trek. Since, Renjo la pass is above 5000m, the trekkers may suffer from altitude sickness after passing 2500 m. The oxygen level decreases, and trekkers have headaches, or many feel uneasy on breathing.
Using dimox tablets per day from low altitude, drinking plenty of water, walking slowly and sleeping well can prevent altitude sickness.
Weather changes uncertainly in Himalayas. We may experience changing weather from Lukla to higher elevation. The same day can be cloudy, rainy, foggy, sunny and snowy. Thus, we should be ready for any kind of weather as challenge.
There are least medical facilities in high elevation. We should carry basic medicines with us. In case of emergencies we can evacuate to Lukla and Kathmandu based on our body condition.
Renjo La pass is one of the best viewpoints for Mount Everest and its nearby peaks. The trek to Renjo La pass can be done by combining with Everest three passes trek or Gokyo Cho La pass trek. It can be done individually as well.
