Overview

The Pikey Peak Trek is one of the shortest and best Himalayan hiking trails in the Solukhumbu region. This trek is a recently opened trek which gives the most bang for your buck as well as the most adventure in just a few short days. You will appreciate the stunning, all-encompassing views of the different mountains of Khumbu region including Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8414m) and many other snow-covered peaks. The outstanding view of sunrise and sunset from the peak gives a unique experience.

Plus, you will experience inviting towns and villages full of Sherpa culture and celebration. Furthermore, you will see a wide variety of landscapes with wildlife, trees, plants, and animals. This is the perfect trek for experienced hikers and travellers, as well as beginners to it all.

What To Expect?

Trekkers will start after reaching Dhap bazar via driving from the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. Next, we will hike through the lower Khumbu region which provides scenic beauty of the great Himalayas of the world including Mount Everest (8848m).

Pikey Peak trek (4065 meters)  offers the view of thick forests decorated with the various colors of rhododendron- the national flower of Nepal, as well as orchids and magnolias. We will also trek through quaint, remote villages rich in Buddhist culture and passion decorated with old monasteries and huge mani walls. The outstanding beauty of the place and shortest route and the panoramic view of the Himalayas attract number of tourists. Remarkable sunrise and sunset view from pikey peak is another attraction that gives an image of the Everest and Himalayan ranges of the Khumbu region.

Since the trek has the shortest route, we can complete the whole trek within 7-9 days.

Itinerary

Sure! Here’s a more detailed itinerary for the 9-day Pikey Peak Trek:

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

  • Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be met by a representative of your trekking company and transferred to your hotel.
  • You can spend the rest of the day exploring the vibrant city of Kathmandu, visiting local markets, and sampling Nepali cuisine.

Day 2: Fly to Phaplu, Drive to Salleri, and Trek to Ghumti

  • After an early breakfast, you will take a scenic flight to Phaplu, which is the starting point of your trek.
  • From Phaplu, you will drive to Salleri, which is the district headquarters of Solukhumbu.
  • After a brief stop at Salleri, you will start your trek towards Ghumti, passing through small villages, terraced fields, and lush forests.
  • You will reach Ghumti by the evening, where you will spend the night in a local teahouse.

Day 3: Trek to Pikey Base Camp

  • Today, you will continue your trek towards Pikey Base Camp, which is located at an elevation of 3,640 meters.
  • The trail will take you through beautiful rhododendron forests, and you will also get your first glimpse of the snow-capped Himalayas in the distance.
  • Upon reaching Pikey Base Camp, you can rest and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
  • You will spend the night in a teahouse at Pikey Base Camp.

Day 4: Sunrise Hike to Pikey Peak and Trek to Loding

  • Today will be an early start as you will be hiking to the summit of Pikey Peak to catch the sunrise.
  • The hike to the peak takes around 2-3 hours, and you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu.
  • After spending some time at the summit, you will trek down to Loding, a small village located at an elevation of 2,450 meters.
  • You will spend the night in a teahouse in Loding.

Day 5: Trek to Junbesi

  • Today, you will trek to Junbesi, a beautiful Sherpa village located at an elevation of 2,700 meters.
  • The trail will take you through lush forests, terraced fields, and small villages, giving you a glimpse of the local way of life.
  • Upon reaching Junbesi, you can rest and explore the village, which is home to several monasteries and cultural sites.
  • You will spend the night in a teahouse in Junbesi.

Day 6: Rest and Exploration Day at Junbesi

  • Today is a rest and exploration day in Junbesi.
  • You can spend the day exploring the village, visiting local monasteries, and interacting with the friendly locals.
  • You can also take short hikes to nearby viewpoints to enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas.
  • You will spend the night in a teahouse in Junbesi.

Day 7: Trek to Phaplu

  • Today, you will trek back to Phaplu, which is the end point of your trek.
  • The trail will take you through beautiful landscapes, and you can also stop at small villages to interact with the locals and learn about their way of life.
  • Upon reaching Phaplu, you can rest and prepare for your return journey to Kathmandu.
  • You will spend the night in a teahouse in Phaplu.

Day 8: Fly back to Kathmandu (KTM)

  • After an early breakfast, you will take a short flight back to Kathmandu from Phaplu.
  • Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can rest and relax in your hotel or go for some last-minute souvenir shopping.
  • You can also explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu, visiting cultural sites and trying out local cuisine.
  • You will spend the night in a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 9: Departure

  • Today is the last day of your Pikey Peak Trek.
  • Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for your onward journey.
  • Alternatively, you can also extend your stay in Nepal and explore other parts of the country.
