Shey Phoksundo Lake trek is moderate trekking in the off-beaten trial of Karnali Province Nepal. Explore the beauty of Lower Dolpo with Juphal, Dunai, Cheepak, Jharana, and Phoksundo Lake in 7 days of trekking from Kathmandu. This short trek gives the best experience of remote life, Buddhist culture, and traditional villages in the western region of Nepal.
Shey Phoksundo Lake is a challenging trek regarding remoteness and limited accommodation on the Phoksundo trekking route. Since Phoksundo National Park is a restricted area, we need a special permit for this trek. It is the least visited trekking spot and a limited number of tea houses are available. Before a few years, Phoksundo Lake trek was a camping trek and even today we can do camping as an option.
The final destination - Phoksundo Lake is the deepest lake in Nepal. The clear water, cool breeze, and the burble of the lake give heavenly feelings that only trekkers can experience in Phoksundo Lake. You can enjoy the driest surrounding of Dolpo along with pastures, old monasteries, yak, and the transhumance practice of Ringmo villagers. The people in Ringmo village make huts on nearby pastures of the Jharana Hotel and shift to small settlements in the winter season. They return to a village in the summer season. Itinerary
After your arrival in Kathmandu airport we will drop you to hotel. In the evening you will have welcome dinner with the company member. Your Shey Phoksundo trek guide will meet you and give briefing of the trek.
Phoksundo Lake trek requires special permit as Lower Dolpo is a restricted area. WE should go to the immigration office with a passport and get trek permit. You can do last-minute shopping for your trek after getting the permit.
We will leave hotel depending on our flight time and have Nepalgunj flight. After flying around 45min – 1 hour from Kathmandu we will reach Nepalgunj, the gateway to western region Nepal.
We will have Flight to Juphal from Nepalgunj airport. The thrilling flight to Juphal takes 35-45 minutes. The trek to Shey Phoksundo Lake begins from Juphal. We will descend to Thulo Bheri valley and enjoy the terraced farming and charming villages on the south bank of the Bheri river. Passing Roop ghar, water mill, farmlands, and reach Dunai for night stay.
After enjoying the delicious breakfast of Dunai tea house we will trek towards the bank of Bheri river and cross the suspension bridge. We will ascend to pine forest enjoying the scenic beauty of western region Nepal. The trial reaches to Suspension bridge of Thuli Bheri River. After crossing the bridge, we will enter the Shey Phoksundo national park. Passing the George, small settlement of Byasgad we will ascend towards the river. The changing landscape, forest species, traditional stone houses, takes us to small settlement called Chhepka.
After having breakfast in Chhepka we will trek to view waterfall (Jharana), Shey Phoksundo trekking trial continues to pasture with winter settlement of Ringmo villagers. Enjoying the surrounding view, uphills and downhills we will reach Jharana hotel for night stay
Today’s destination, Ringmo Phoksundo Lake takes six hours of walk from Jharana hotel. We will trek on the bank of Phoksundo Lake through birch tree trial. Enjoying the view of Phoksundo Lake we will reach the meadows decorated with yak. The Ringmo also known as Tibetan Bons town welcomes us with amazing view of surrounding.
Shey Phoksundo Lake is the deepest lake of Nepal. We will stay in Ringmo and enjoy our final destination of the trip. After having breakfast in Ringmo tea house we will Rome towards Phoksundo lake and enjoy the beauty of Phoksundo lake. WE will also visit Tshow Gompa, after visiting the lake.
After having breakfast, we will trek back from Ringmo village to Shyanta. The ascending and descending trial on the forest trial, medows, terrace landscape and hills we will reach Shyanta.
The route to Sheyphoksundo Lake completes as we reach Juphal from Shyanta. The local stone roofed house, remote life, farmlands and bank of Thuli Bheri river takes us to Juphal. We will saty nearby Juphal airport so that can reach airport on easily next day.
We will reach airport depending on the flight time and fly to Nepaljung. If possible we will catch the Kathmandu flight drive back to hotel.
Depending on our flight time we will drop you to airport. In this way Shey Phoksundo lake trek completes with our departure from Nepal.

Shey Phosksundo trek cost is 1900$ for foreigner. It is a restricted area so a minimum of two travelers are required for the trekking. Guide is compulsory.

We can reach Shey Phoksundo by taking flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then to Juphal from Nepalgunj. You should walk for three days to reach Phoksundo lake.
Shey Phokssundo lake trek is easy trek but its difficulty is its remoteness. The dry land, less tea houses, up hills and downhills during the trek are some difficulties you should handle during the trek.
The permit required for Shey Phoksundo lake trek are Lower Dolpo Permit and Phoksundo National park permit.
You will get tea houses for accommodation. Normal tea houses with clean rooms and twin bed will be available. In peak season you may not get rooms and should stay in camp in such situation.
